Booster

Boosters in FlowDesigner are nodes that represent a pump or compressor, a device which adds mechanical energy for the system to transport a fluid from a path of lower to higher resistance.

Required Input Data

Variable
Description

Identification Tag

Descriptive label or equipment identification number for the booster being modelled

Status

Operating condition of the pump whether on, off or the solver ignores the pressure rise across the pump during calculation

Elevation

Vertical distance between the booster relative to a common baseline applied for all nodes in the model.

Discharge Pipe

Key number of the pipe to be connected at the pump discharge.

Case Mode

Solver calculation mode which can either be to size the pump (Design) or to evaluate a booster performance characteristic (Rating).

Sizing Model

Applicable during Design case mode, it defines which between the duty flow (Size for Flow) or duty head (Size for Head Rise) will be applied as input to solve the booster specifications.

Design Flow

Applicable during Design case mode, Duty flow that would be achieved by the booster and serves as basis in solving the pump duty head as part of pump calculations.

Design Head

Applicable during Design case mode, Duty head that would be achieved by the booster and serves as basis in solving the pump duty flow as part of pump calculations.

Pump Model

Applicable during Rating case mode, this is the name used for the stored the pump performance characteristic in the database

Impeller Unit and Diameter

Applicable during Rating case mode, the impeller data is defined by the user for the calculation, the data can be changed based on the range of values defined in the database

Operating speed

Applicable during Rating case mode, the operating is defined by the user for the calculation, the data can be changed based on the range of values defined in the database

Heat Loss Model

Applies a change in fluid temperature across the pump based on the selected heat loss model: - Ignore Heat Loss - Fixed Transfer Rate - Fixed Temperature Change
